This session reminded me of how powerful lived experience can be—especially when shared with purpose. I truly believe Black men need to hear your story—not just because it’s moving, but because as a social worker, I’ve seen how transformative it is for students and young people to hear from someone who’s lived through what they’re going through. On a personal note, my dad was incarcerated for most of my life, and it shaped how I move through the world. It also deeply impacted my brother, who is Deaf. That absence hit us differently—but still hard. That’s why your story resonated with me on multiple levels. I would love to see your performance interpreted—it deserves to reach everyone, especially Deaf and Hard-of-Hearing folks who don’t always get access to these kinds of powerful moments. I think the impact would multiply.
